Astaxanthin is often found in algae - in the form of plankton - but also in some fungi and bacteria. It belongs to the group of carotenoids that are responsible for the color of many fruits and vegetables, from bright red tomatoes to strong orange carrots.
However, the real peculiarity of astaxanthin is that it is a radical scavenger that is many times stronger than vitamin C, vitamin E or other known antioxidants. Natural astaxanthin is obtained from the bloody alga Haematococcus pluvialis. It is a maximum of 0.05 mm large green alga from the Chlorophyceae family.
The liquid formulation based on MCT coconut oil increases the bioavailability of the natural astaxanthin.
